choice joyce

joyce lee style bags

In her fall lineup Joyce Lee, Madewell's former creative director, has chosen bags that don't just enhance any outfit but also offer generous space and effortless functionality. It's a fitting selection from the mind behind the brand's most iconic/coveted products such as the best-selling Transport Tote. Her fine-tuned edit is inspiring me to add the Parker Thatch (The Row vibes!) bag, above, and the slouchy suede, below, plus another suede carry-all by Khaite and a cute bucket by RSVP

sienna's soiree

The fall follow-up to Sienna Miller x Marks & Spencer's sell-out summer collaboration just landed, and everyone is saying it's even better than the last. Just in time for the holidays, the collection is anchored in party perfection, such as the cream suit she's wearing, above, along with the animal print leather clutch, the silk maxi dress, and the faux-fur jacket. I want it all!

top notch

For me, Halloween will be calling for head-to-toe mob wife, but for the holidays, I'll be dressing up in fancy tops and, well, that's really it! I believe those special pieces, such as the $245 ME + EM blouse, above (very Chloe!), the $138 mesh top and the embellished tank, below, can do all the heavy (style) lifting and keep everything else simple. Along with: this lace Reformation, this strapless and sexy Pixie Market, and this striking satin Aligne bow peplum top!

i love NY style

Seventy two hours in New York this past weekend was all it took to realize my fall wardrobe is  seriously lacking in the accessories department. A brisk morning bike ride to La Bicyclette in Brooklyn definitely warranted a pair cute leather gloves, similar to above, like the ones I saw many others sporting even without bikes. I sourced great color options at a hard-to-beat price at Land's End, BTW. I could also use socks  in fun, unexpected colors such as these from J.CrewAlex Mill (blue ones below) and Bombas for additional outfit pop! And the way to layer knits right now is tied around your waist, under or even or over a jacket, just FYI. Of course, mandatory by now is the barn jacket, which, if you're still in the market for one, I love these by Pixie Market, Alex Mill and Wyeth

big apple basics

If I hadn't packed my trusty, go-with-everything AGOLDE jeans this past weekend I am not sure I would made it through the whirlwind of meals at Sartiano's, Eel Bar and Cocodaq comfortably on my style game. Not coincidentally my sister worked her pair in black as well! And in another twist of fate this Monday, they're now on sale at Shopbop, along with tons of other new downtown-ready staples (at 40% off!)  including these Schutz ballet flats, this Vince t-shirt, these Cult Gaia wide-leg jeans, these Sam Edelman Mary Janes, this Z Supply striped sweater, and these Stuart Weitzman flats. Shop it all here!

farmshopping

There's a poached chicken salad that everyone likes to order for lunch at Farmshop in Brentwood, to which I attribute miraculous stay-full-till-dinner properties. While I was mowing mine down yesterday, I paused to savor my friend's earrings--a jaw-dropping pair of puffy gold heart hoops. She informed me that they were by Real Fine Studioa new LA-based line that also designs the cutest signet rings, which apparently are all the rage with twenty-something hipsters. We also talked about an upcoming wedding in Lake Como and what to wear (this, this and this), bags that don't break the bank (my new Coach, below, and the $88 Bottega lookalike, last pic, real deal here!) and bags that will (Khaite!), favorite new jackets (Simkhai, Pixie Market, Mango), and the next must-read on my list! Happy Weekend!

shortcut to shine

marlien rentmeester me and em

In case you’re wondering, the path of least resistance to evening glamour is ME + EM’s new sequin pants. They’re beyond comfortable and yet they can confidently whirl around a party with the elegance of a cocktail dress. I love them–and all the easy on-top options to go with including the tie-neck blouse with elastic cuffs, pictured, this pinstripe ruffle top, this cropped tux shirt, the ruffle silk blouse, and this striped silk top. P.S. All of these tops yield instant party perfection! This post is in paid partnership with ME + EM.

off the cuff

I love a good micro trend--the kind that's so niche and subtle it could easily fly under the radar of anyone not in the know. My latest go-to is a cuff bracelet worn over a sleeve. It looks new and fresh and IYKYK cool, especially styled with a sweater or even a jacket or coat! Try working it with the cuff below from Lizzie Fortunato, or these affordable options from Kenneth Jay Lane, Jenny Bird, and Amber Sceats.

in theory

marlien rentmeester theory style

I vividly remember stealing my mother's Ann Taylor trousers to wear during my college internship at People Magazine, as if it happened just yesterday. Well, just yesterday, she wanted payback by appropriating my brand new Theory trousers, above. She acknowledged their flattering fit, the luxuriously soft and lightweight, non-itchy wool, and the gorgeous navy (a perfect neutral!)--all rare qualities to find one pair of pants! Even my twin sister asked to borrow them for an upcoming trip to Rome. Sorry, get your own, because I'll be wearing mine non-stop with everything from denim (Blaze Milano, pictured), polished blazers (Theory) and even simple boxy tees. Finally, we can all call off the search for the best-fitting, infinitely versatile trousers.

party ready

I firmly believe in buying a great party dress when I find one rather than waiting for a special occasion. For me, options become frustratingly elusive when I need (just) one the most, so I instantly snapped up the under $200 beaded Anthropologie sheath, above, and the leather Mango fringed skirt, below. Also poised to party: this Xu Zhi draped chiffon skirt, this sequin Halston and this maxi La Double J.

coat check

As I try not to catastrophize the fact that it's currently in the high 70s in NYC, Chicago and LA, I'll keep preparing for the inevitable arrival of fall! In fact, we should all be stocking up on a statement coat that will save us from thinking about what to wear underneath it! I like these affordable options from Cos, above, Avec Les Filles, below (under $200!), Sezanne (second pic down), and Rouje (another option here and here).

work week

It was a non-stop, blazer-and-ballet-flats kind of week in which I was scheduled to attend Diane Von Furstenburg's exhbit at the Skirball Museum, a fundraiser for Nathan Hochman, a trunk show hosted by The Stax, a photo exhibit and charitable auction at Milk Studios (which included a piece by my sister!), and the A.L.C. store opening in Beverly Hills last night! Meanwhile, what I actually did was work at my desk, over-eat at two new-to-me LA restaurants, All Roads Enoteca (the grilled carciofi is insane), and Muse (the brioche and butter and eggplant pasta are worth the splurge), partake in three birthday cakes, not sleep during a red-eye flight from Hawaii, and participate in a live Q&A Webinar with Cake (look for excerpts in my Instagram Stories soon!). In case you're wondering these new pieces by Doen (below), Maje (last pic), and Moon River (looks like Celine if you squint!!) got me through it all! Happy Friday!!

it's a cinch

These pics are Wazing us straight on to the beltway, because, clearly, a little cinch goes a long way. Think shortcut to right-now style. If you don't already have the iconic studded Khaite belt, above, you can score a less expensive derivative like this Madewell (which I have!), this Dehanche, this Aureum and this Good American. I also love the idea of belting a coat with this tie-it-on thin option and an oversized Cos blazer with a Celine statment (last pic).
