For my trip to Europe last summer I stuffed a weeks' worth of clothes, shoes and bags into a carry-on suitcase only to have it split--true story--in Split, Croatia. My packed-to-the-gills suitcase literally burst open as I was going through airport security. A customs officer kindly helped me tape it together while I sat on top of it.
