sneakers + dresses

My summer game plan involves some cool trips and a lot of walking. A lot. Across stretches of sandy Hawaiian beaches, a lava field or two, up and down the cliffs of Santorini, throughout New York City, etc.--all to make up for my sloth-like drive-everywhere-in-LA existence. I am very excited about all of these plans, but of course, the adventures will pose at least one fashion challenge: how I can accrue all this mileage stylishly and comfortably (i.e., without my feet falling off)? The answer (for me at least) is....sneakers! The kind, however, that don't look like they belong in the gym, but instead are made to work some fashion magic while you enjoy your summer fun sans blisters. On my shopping list are a pair of classic, low-key kicks from Superga (or these updated ones), Converse, Keds, or old-school Tretorns. Teamed with a cute dress, I'll be good to go (and go and go)!

Old Navy has really cute ones that look like Bensimons and are super comfy (and inexpensive)!!

Love low-key dresses and "tennies"... This look always reminds me of Julia Roberts in Sleeping With the Enemy... Ahh, the '90's!

Bought a pair of Bensimons from Madewell. They're doing colors exclusive to the label. They are flat flat flat, and you can certainly feel the pavement, but nothing a little insole couldn't help. I'm a 9.5/10 and got the 41. They run small.

What do you think about sneakers with shorts? Any tips? I never, ever wear sneakers - I actually really dislike them (except for exercise) but we are taking a trip to the east coast this summer and plan on doing lots of walking...not sure my feet will hold up in sandals...

What are the sneakers in the second photo ... tan sneakers with denim jacket and black hat?
