bottoms up

It's a nice thing being able to do the beach thing year-round in LA (seaside meals and sunset cocktails, reading the Sunday Times on the sand while the kids play, etc.) But there is a downside: it's always bikini season, and I am not 20 anymore. Lately it's been a bit more anxiety-producing what with the youthful bikini-clad spring breakers omnipresent. Apart from marveling at their gravity-defying abilities, I recently came to accept that in addition to having better bottoms than I, they also understand the bikini-bottom better than I: they all had the same bikini-bottom style--hip-slung with ruching on the back, down the center line, and though they all had different bodies, it seemed that this bikini bottom, whatever it was, was universally flattering. So, I finally got around to asking one of the girls where her bikini bottom was from, and she answered matter of factly, "Victoria's Secret." Of course! The last time I shopped at VS was when I too was in high school! But home I went and promptly ordered one in black (always the most flattering shade for a bathing suit!). When it arrived in the mail the other day, I was both nervous and excited. I literally tore off my jeans in my office and put them on. And I have to say, I was rather quite pleased. My husband actually heartily approved. So, there you go. A bathing suit that will do ANY butt a million favors. Thank you VS--my order for several other colors is forthcoming. Get it here. Done!

I bought this bottom in black last year and I LOVE it. I recommended it to a few friends, and they all love it too - it really is universally flattering!

great tip, thanks! I tried on swimsuits in a store today. Quite depressing! Is there anything less flattering than a bathing suit with socks? I don't think so.

I have some undies from American Apparel in this style and I really like them.

Thanks for the tip. Any help my bottom can get this summer is very much appreciated! Off to VS tomorrow now.

Interesting, I stick to that cut from VS for my underwear, for that same all-flattering reason and never thought to try it as a swimsuit!

HI Marlien, do you know how it sizes?

It fits true to size (I got a medium).

Dear Marlien,
Did you buy the bottoms separately or did you purchase a top from VS too? If so, which one did you choose, and if not, what do you plan to pair with your bottoms? Thank you!

Yes, I'm curious if you got a top from VS as well!

Love those bottoms -- I always buy solid bottoms (black or white) and pair them with printed tops, often strapless styles by J.Crew, Zimmermann or VS. Printed bottoms are almost always unflattering on me, so wearing the printed top + solid bottom is a great way to "cheat" a little. :)
