the hero

marlien rentmeester dress

Look who's the hero now! Yes, that's right, my Jack dress, according to the editors of Harper's Bazaar! This cutie is now up for grabs on shop.bazaar.com (and in navy, too) till supplies last. I'm guessing it won't be long. Also, definitely make sure to check out my interview with the editors and pics here. It's a good read!

summer in the city

My running around in New York City for the last few days has entailed laps around the Whitney Museum, a jaunt across the Brooklyn Bridge, a head-to-toe exploration of Dumbo Soho House, rounds of miniature golf with my son, and miles clocked up and down the Hudson River Park bikepath--and it has all required a marathon of dress-wearing. Fortunately, I packed well: a carry-on full of frocks that make the Big Apple-style cut and keep me cool, including the Rebecca Taylor (on sale!), above and the striped Madewell, below. Did I mention that I've also been shop-hopping? Of course, this should come as no surprise, and nor should the fact that I snapped up a few more dresses, including this lace H&M, this floral Topshop (I also like this cut-out one for hot, steamy days!), this ruffled Apiece Apart and this mini Saylor wrap.

elliette et al

I've officially begun my summer dress-only streak (read: no jeans allowed). And I just found this corset-inspired cutie by Elliette (on sale, no less) to put into my rotation. I love it so much, I might have to get it in blue, too. But then again I could add other on-sale options into the mix, such as these by Veronica Beard, Ulla Johnson, Warm, and Backstage

bold brims

To go with summer's barely-there dresses (I love the Zimmermann, above), I'm going to need a new (i.e., very much this season) big, bold hat! One that will totally shield my face--and turn heads at the same time. I'm talking hats like these from Sensi Studio, Sole Society, Hat Attack, Eugenia Kim, and Lola.

white sight

Clearly, there's a consensus among this fashion blogger crew (vacationing in Tulum, natch) that white sunglasses are a warm-weather must, and their go-to's are by Le Specs. I also like these versions from Saint Laurent (below, left), Illesteva, and Le Specs (slightly different from above).

summer skirts

This chic German trio is making me re-think my summer skirt game--and score with a long and bold play. What's most appealing about this midi silhouette is its wear-anywhere ability. It can be dressed up or down--i.e., with sky-high heels, simple sandals or even sneakers--plus, it will keep me cool on a hot summer day. No major accessories needed. Prime examples include the ruffled wrap, above, the checked linen Zara (right), this feminine Velvet, this polka dot Lisa Marie Fernandez, this striped Topshop (also this floral wrap one), and this Ganni mesh wrap.

one-piece wonder

For swimsuit trends and inspiration, there may be no better place to look than Hawaii. It's the daily year-round uniform, and this summer for Oahu-based Halley Elefante (A.K.A. @thesaltyblonde, pictured above and below), the one-piece is having its moment in the sunlight. What makes this suit stand out are splash-making details we can all appreciate, from cut-outs to one-shoulder silhouettes to lace-up ties (plus extra coverage from the sun!). The current best of the bunch are executed here: the backless black and white striped Vitamin A (above), the halter Love and Lemons (immediately below), the ruched one-shoulder Peony, below, the multi-colored striped Skye & Staghorn (below), the lace-up cut-out Acacia (similar to floral one below), the open-back ruffled Montce (below), the floral ruffle one-shoulder O'Neill (on sale, below), the seersucker cross-stapped back Blue Life (below), the gingham O'Neill (on sale, below), and the back frilled Suboo (similar to last pic).

blazing hot

Summer's all about a relaxed look, and for me, a lightweight blazer is my fast track to effortlessly chic. Throw one on with a pair of jeans and a tee, and I am good to go. With shorts and blouse? Sure, why not? I'm telling you a summer blazer adds the perfect amount of polish--and fashion cred--to any outfit. I like these by Mango, Theory (similar to above and below), Frame, Joie, and Tibi.

vacation dresses

My horoscope is predicting not only exotic but spontaneous travel this month. Even though I have no flights booked, it wouldn't hurt to be jet-set prepared, right? Just in case? For sure, so I poked around and secured some vacay-ready possibilities, including the Boden drama situation, above, this crochet Self Portrait, this flirty Reformation, this slinky Cloe Cassandro, and this ruffled Misa. Now all I need is a plane ticket!!
