the puffer jacket
Of all the cold-weather trends coming down the pike, the puffer may be the easiest—and coziest—one to pull off! Designers such as Stella McCartney and Marques Alameida are updating this winter staple by rendering them in unexpected silhouettes, vivid colors and retro-spirited prints. My favorites include these by Isabel Marant, Asos, Tophsop, Stella McCartney and Zara.

scarf 2.0
Monday, August 29Found! Winter's best accessory: Tibi's merino wool scarf. To be clear, it is no ordinary scarf. It can be wrapped around your body a million different ways to keep you warm and chic--I love it tied up like a cardigan, above--and worn with pretty much everything wintry. It comes in black (my fave), white and amber.

style under the sun
Friday, August 26It was a good thing I was on vacation--off the coast of Hvar, Croatia, to be exact--when I discovered 100 Grams of Sun's Instagram account, otherwise I would have died from a lethal case of wanderlust! Brooklyn-based Nanda Hampe chronicles her far-flung adventures across the globe, sharing exquisite images of awe-inspiring locales with personal style to match. Take, for example, her Rhodes Resort dress which harmonizes quite beautifully with Bali's verdant rice fields. Seems to me her secret for vacation dressing success boils down to vibrant hues and prints that can hold their own against breathtaking backdrops. Pieces like these from Yumi Kim, Zimmermann, Asos, Frame and ALC! I say wear them back in reality to feel just a little more glamorous!

suitcase shopping
One of the best things about traveling with friends is. . . shopping their suitcases! Recently in the Hamptons, I scored some great new pieces inspired by my pals' packing: these H&M two-toned jeans (pictured above), this Alice McCall tassel-trimmed romper, this striped Topshop shirt, this pom pom cut-out Storets blouse, and these satin Oscar de la Renta sandals (similar to above). Can't wait to see them all on my home doorstep!
the hooded sweatshirt
Wednesday, August 24Unlike me, my husband doesn't care much for fashion, but he does have a signature look. It centers on surf trunks, Ray Ban sunglasses, and a t-shirt. When it's cold, he wears a hoodie pulled over his head a la the Unabomber. It's a very, um, distinct look, which I have come to accept. But it looks like in the months ahead, his fashion game will be spot on, as a hooded sweatshirt is a key fall trend. Thanks to designers like Vetements, the casual staple is front and center--and decidedly chic! Especially these ones by Topshop (similar to above), Happiness, 3.1 Phillip Lim, H&M, and Vince.

striking stripes
Monday, August 22I've decided it's time to up my button-down shirt game with a fresh-looking striped shirt. Timeless and versatile, it's the perfect (statement-y) foil to fall-ready skirts and pants. But the new versions for fall feature bold pinstripes and feminine flounces (i.e., balloon sleeves, asymmetric necklines, etc). My favorites include these by J.Crew, Rag & Bone, Equipment, Storets, Toga, and Madewell.

bell of the ball
Friday, August 19When I was in Paris last fall, I thought long and hard about investing in Celine's bell-sleeve sweater, seen here, but ultimately decided to pass on it as I'd already spent enough Euros spreeing through the Marais. Well, now I am patting myself on the back because H&M just came out with an iteration that's a little more subdued--and, of course, wallet friendly. I also bought the blouse version. Happy Day!
the slingback mule
Thursday, August 18If you're not quite ready to wrap your head around winter-ready boots, you might seriously consider Acne Studios (poised to sell out!) slingback mule, which Norway-based fashion editor Darja Barannik proves is out and out versatile. With its covered front and exposed back, this boot-like shoe is summer-to-fall worthy. Worn with tights, it can brave winter days.

bold boots
This fall, we'll need to step out of our black-boot comfort zone and venture into more colorful territory. Pretty much any color goes, but as these pics show, yellow, white, and burgundy make distinctly chic statements. Additionally, boots that are tricked out with embellishment or rendered in buttery velvet are great options. The bottom line is the bolder, the better. My favorites include these by Gianvito Rossi, Sam Edelman, Isabel Marant , Alexander Wang, Iro, and Stuart Weitzman.

faded jeans
Wednesday, August 17Light wash jeans are fading in this fall, and I'm on the case to find the most flattering pairs. So far, I'm ogling these styles from Acne Studios, J.Crew, Levi's, Rachel Comey, Gap, Frame, Topshop, Re/Done, and Alexander Wang.
endless summer staples
Tuesday, August 16Two days back in the grind and I'm still dressing like I'm on vacation! For me, there's something leisurely about throwing on an easy dress, like the one above from Zara (which is really a jumpsuit in disguise!), and going about my daily business. I feel like I'm still a bit on holiday--or at the very least extending the high of it. So, naturally, I am now poking around for more holiday dresses that work well at home. The best of the bunch so far, all of them under $150, come from English Factory, Pixie Market, H&M, MLM Label, Line & Dot, Asos, and Style Mafia.

in transit
Monday, August 15I just returned from an adventurous week at sea, off the Croatian coast, where fall's chill is already in the air. (I will share highlights from my trip later this week!) The slightly cooler weather called for a mix of summery and new autumn elements--a dressing strategy we'll all have to embrace in a few weeks time here on terra firma! The outfit, above, nails transitional dressing, combining fall-ready leather and fur with summery open-toe sandals and a lightweight blouse. I'd like to transition into next season with these cool autumn accents from Rebecca Taylor, Asos, J.Crew, Loeffler Randall, Sea, Proenza Schouler, Carven, and Mango.
