match made

Matches, the venerable UK-based, designer-rich retailer, recently asked me to share my tried-and-true style rules. (They also photographed me in my sister's New York City apartment in various cute shirts, above.) You can check out the cool feature here--and shop the incredible sale (30 to 50%) going on, too. Some amazing finds include these $350 Gucci suede sandals (you don't see that everyday!), this Peter Pilotto dress, and this Fendi clutch.

in brogue

This picture is making me think it would be nice to give my strappy sandals a break from time to time this summer. Just throw in some lace-up oxfords to change it up a bit! Especially with a little dress. Options to consider: these cut-out black ones by Loeffler Randall, this perforated beige style by Kate Spade, and these spectator oxfords from Nina and Mercanti Fiorentini (similar to above).

set sale

Yesterday I indulged myself in some Neiman Marcus sale shopping, champagne in the dressing room and all. Among the highlights: this sexy lace dress (40% off) and this boxy floral top (33% off) by Stella McCartney, this Tom Ford clutch (33% off), these iconic frocks by Chloe and this Proenza Schouler. For me, though, the coup d'etat were these sexy Alexander Wang lace-up sandals (30% off) procured in black. Yes, they are awesome. And I haven't lost steam yet... I'm wanting to tackle Barney's next, where incredibly desirable pieces marked down by 40% such as this Isabel Marant Etoile tunic dress, this Saint Laurent classic duffel bag and these (hard-to-find) rose gold Givenchy sandals await!

shirting around

A quick getaway to Napa over Memorial Day weekend provided me with a dress rehearsal for summer, among other valuable things! The 90+ degree weather meant that I could wear many of my new (and old) warm-weather pieces and the back-to-back activities--running, yoga, dining, poolside lounging, swimming, biking, wine drinking, and late-night dancing--demanded multiple outfit changes. I was confident I had packed all the clothes suitable for the itinerary (given I've done this trip before)--until a friend threw on an oversize blue button-down blouse for our leisurely bike ride through the vineyards. Not only was it perfect for the outing, but perfect for the summer. It's something I could throw on over a bathing suit, or with a pair of jeans, shorts or skirt (as demonstrated in these pics, here). The loose fit yields much-needed ventilation in the sweltering heat, and it looks effortlessly, summery cool. So, of course, as soon as I returned, I hunted down some options for the warms months ahead. They include but are not limited to this Band of Outsiders pinstripe shirt (30% off), this lightweight cotton Elizabeth and James, this Steven Alan button-down, and this J.Crew boyfriend-fit classic.

chairish

You may recall that my love for second-hand shopping extends from my wardrobe to my home. In fact, my most beloved pieces of furniture--i.e., my living room sofa, my dining room chairs, my vintage Chinese glass paintings (above)--have been sourced from antique stores and flea markets from all over the world. So, I was thrilled when Chairish--the newest, coolest (not crazily-priced!) home decor consignment site around--asked me to do a quick guest edit of my favorites from their current, masterfully-curated selection. The browsing process alone made me think I need to/can easily re-decorate my house from top to bottom! Here are some of the pieces I want to spruce up my house: this Milo Baughmann campaign desk, below, in orange lacquer, this mid-century brass campaign chair (to go with!/second image), this Moroccan Azilal rug (third pic), this beachy Cheryl Maeder photograph (fourth image),  this pair of vintage brass Italian Chiavari chairs (fifth image), this antique nickel light pendant, this brass apple ice bucket, and this gilded Hollywood Regency coffee table (last image). sale on

I equate Memorial Day Weekend with the start of summer--and sale season! Let the games begin. First up: Shopbop, where the discounts run deep (as in 70% off!). The incredibly versatile Alexander Wang sandals, above, are now 30% off, and there are still tons of sizes left. For now. (My fave sandal is the go-with-everything neutral one in the middle.) Other fantastic finds: this polished Equipment silk shirt dress, this Ostwald Helgason color-block skirt, and these Rag & Bone ankle-zip jeans. Check it all out here.

romping around

Several days into the Cannes Film Festival,  attendees are traipsing around off the (seemingly interminable) red carpet in what else.... south-of-France-daytime-chic. Take for example, the outfit, above, stellar in its elegant simplicity, punctuated by, of course, French gamine-worthy Chanel booties. I'd like to pull off this sleek look aujourd'hui with these romper options from Theory (similar to above), Club Monaco, Tamara Mellon, Madewell, and Blaque Label.

summer sparkle

Note to self: when I put on bling, I feel like bling. High or low, it all works for me as long as it looks fantastic! I'd like to sparkle with this pave cuff, below, that's summer-perfect in its lightness (the pave pod would look like it's floating on your skin). And I love that it's under $200. Other baubles I'd like to shine in include these mismatched pearl, gold and emerald earrings (last pic below), these delicate rose gold and topaz ear cuffs (or this single one), this fun vintage Chanel necklace, this Erickson Beamon wrap-around ring and this Oscar de la Renta bib necklace.

barely dressed

Several days of record setting triple-digit temperatures has me wanting to wear as little as possible--while still looking stylish, of course! I could go the bikini route (see last post) but I don't think that would fly at school pick-up this afternoon. The solution: easy, breezy summer dresses. I wish I had these heat wave-proof babies in my closet right now: this cut-out linen Kate Spade Saturday this eyelet JOA, this asymmetrical Asos or this short black Asos (similar to above), this floral, flowy Zimmermann, this zippered shift Madewell, this lacy Isabel Marant (or this less expensive version), and this frayed denim halter re:named dress.

london calling

For me, the next best thing to being in London is my twin sister working in London. She's been across the pond for the last week or so shooting several fashion campaigns, interacting with the city's most in-the-know fashion editors and stylists and getting the scoop on all things hip. And she has been diligently phoning in this intel to me! For starters, she says, it's all about oversized jean jackets. The all-American topper effectively handles London's mercurial climate--and while doing so looks effortlessly-tomboy-cool. The oversized silhouette feels new and edgy, too--and would succeed just as well on U.S. soil. I'd pair one, such as this Joe's Jeans, this J.Crew (order up two sizes) or this Topshop with just about everything in my closet from a feminine, flowy dress to a casual romper. The other sartorial must-have: clean, minimalist sneakers. According to my sister, everyone's wearing them everywhere and with everything. The girls in London might have taken a cue from their counterparts on the Continent, namely the French and specifically Isabel Marant, whose pre-fall collection (see pics below) was shown with nothing but these Stan Smith men's sneakers (subtract two sizes from your US women's size to find the appropriate men's shoe). Moving on to the food scene, my sister could not stop raving about Chiltern Firehouse, a restaurant situated in a Victorian-Gothic fire station-cum-stunning-Andre Balazs hotel. While the inventive food--"crab doughnuts," for example--was off-the-charts-delicious, the people watching--Orlando Bloom, Ralph Lauren, Lauren Bush Lauren, etc.--was equally titillating. Last I heard from her, she was plotting her way back into Chiltern Firehouse for another meal.
