my NYFW

There were the fashion shows, the meetings with designers, the mingling with celebrities, and even some fabulous vintage shopping scores (including the bubblegum pink silk dress I'm wearing, above), but the true highlight of New York Fashion Week for me was a dinner out with good friends at The Waverly Inn. Over kale salads, crab cakes, french fries and salted chocolate, we talked books, relationships, work(ing hard!), and fashion, of course. (Everyone agreed that Altuzzara hit a Spring 2014 homerun.) I even got an Instagram lesson from my friend J.J. Martin, pictured above. That we dined in glam central was also exciting--i.e., we were seated across from model Karolina Kurkova (it was comforting to see her actually eat!) and a few tables away from a party Cameron Diaz was hosting. All in all, it was an inspiring fun-filled evening on top of a busy week. Below are some pics, and stay tuned for my favorite trends and takeaways from the the action!

Here I am day one of NYFW outside Lincoln Center. You may recall the J.Crew statement necklace and the Lavish Alice skirt from previous posts. I love how they come together in this outfit to create a funky tribal feel. P.S. If I could do the boots over I would--something a little less heavy but this Joie pair did make running around between shows actually doable.

One of my outfits (yes, that's my torso) made a cameo in a New York Times video (above) about cool elements and patterns from Fashion Week. The blue skirt is actually a dress, the upper half concealed by an old but still very much loved Topshop sweater. I'm toting a Clare Vivier clutch and wearing Zara booties. You can see the video here!

In between shows one day, I slipped into sandals (picked up in Athens!) and roamed around Soho in this recently purchased Asos romper that's as cool and flowy as it looks!

Such a great post. It's fun to see the human side to fashion--and I love hearing what editors *really* think was a success (and I do mean editors, and not just bloggers). I love that blogging lets you share things with us so candidly. Thank so much for the photos!

great post! Thanks for making fashion feel a little bit attainable! (I am at home with four little boys and it is SO refreshing to dip into your blog with a cup of tea during the rare quiet moments) So, that playsuit, is it pretty fitted or more of a loose fit?

I got my pink dress at Shareen Vintage, which has stores in both New York and LA. The playsuit--I am actually wearing it again today!--has a loose, comfy fit. It's great!

Love love love your blog!
Where is your grey top/sweatshirt (in the photo with the j.crew necklace) from??
It looks like a great neutral top - the perfect "frame" for your fab necklace

Hi Marlien,

I love all of your photos...looks so fun! I wanted to ask you how that romper runs? Is it true to size or does it run small or large? Thanks

Kristin

Love the shoes with the romper - are they Rockstuds or someone else's fab rendition? Either way, they are a perfect foil for the sweet floral.

Do you think the playsuit runs true to size or a little small? I never know how to gauge the European sizing at ASOS!

Thank you for making me look at things I would otherwise pass right over. Hopping on the playsuit wagon...it says 100% cotton but looks like more of a poly blend. Care to confirm?

I absolutely love that vintage bubble gum pink dress even though I can't see the whole dress:)

and that Asos romper is adorbs.

what color booties were you wearing with the dress you wore as a skirt:)?

thanks!!!

also-for those looking for this dress the have them on the three floor web site in more sizes as i think they are out of them on the ASOS site.

There's no tag inside the Asos playsuit--just checked!--but it does feel like some kind of poly blend. Nice though...

Marlien-

I think that necklace you are wearing with the pink dress is also amazeballs and I sent it to a friend for reference for her as she is looking for a necklace like that. Are you able to share where you got that necklace?! Thanks!!
