julia's shoes

Vogue recently named London-based stylist and fashion editor Julia Sarr Jarmois an "It Girl." Her personal style is rooted in bold and unusual prints, clashing patterns and colors, vintage dresses and, of course, her gorgeous voluminous hair--an edgy signature look that has garnered a cult-like following and appearances on thousands of style blogs. For spring, Julia offers some easy-to-follow, wardrobe-updating styling tips:
1. Pair mismatched striped pieces
2. Layer different shades of pastels
3. Go for bright, printed socks
4. Wear bold statement shoes (she's wearing Azzedine Alaia heels in the pic above)
Her last directive really resonates with me. If there's a quick and easy way to elevate/punctuate an outfit, it's through statement shoes, and there's no shortage of them for spring. I'm loving this one by Carven (how cute are those bows?), these Nicholas Kirkwood knockouts (we had these shoes on a Lucky cover shoot and miraculously they worked with every different outfit tried on), and these iconic jewel-toed flame sandals by Prada (expect these to sell out quickly). What distinguishes all these shoes is that they are easy to integrate into your wardrobe (i.e. you don't have to buy around them), and they are not so statement-y or occasional. These are shoes you can wear (i.e. show off) all the time.
